SOMEONE STOLE MY ARTWORK!

Oh my gosh, I'm so fuming right now. I was just making use of the opportunity to have internet for an hour or two and checked the web for pictures of Rush from Stargate Universe, and guess what, one of those appearing on the google image search looked a lot like one of my manips, but altered. So I checked it out, and guess what, I found THREE of my manips on that person's page, all altered and my signature taken out! Oh, I've not had that in my entire time in fandom, but man, I'm ready to kill her.

But no, I'm a reasonable person, so I actually registered at that site, wrote a polite but very very clear message and asked her to take down my manips. Now I'll give her a few days to comply, and then I'll report her to the site AND I will make sure that all my fandoms, not only Stargate Universe, get warned about her. I'm reasonably sure that I'm not the only framed artist here. And since she provided her twitter, tumblr and facebook, I'm pretty sure I can raise hell if she doesn't take down my stolen and altered artwork.

Tell me, friends, am I overreacting here? I've been in the fandom world for over a decade and I never had that happen to me, but I'm so pissed right now... Please let me know if you think I'm overdoing it. I might not have a clear mind about this right now... I dare say I'm usually a nice person, but right now I feel very malicious...

Not at all! No one should steal art of any kind and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it!

I totally agree. Stealing artwork - be it fics or vids or pics - is the lowest thing possible. We fans put our work and love into our artwork, and I can't figure how another fan can't respect that. I also don't think she should get away with it, and I'm really close to declare war on her, but most of all I want her (terribly badly) altered versions of my manips to disappear from the net. I'm so angry that she dared doing that - how could she think it wouldn't come out eventually? There are not that many manip artists around, especially in SGU. Stupid 3§$%& I'll better not put in words what I'm thinking right now... I really want to report her on the site, just on principle, because she really shouldn't get away with this. I wonder how many other artist's works she has stolen and altered...

I would report her personally. Even if she takes it down it shouldn't have been up in the first place.

You have a right to be angry! Theft is theft. This person is no better than any other plagiarist.

Thank you, that makes me feel better. I've heard about stuff like this, but it never happened to me, and now that it has, I'm so so angry. Because it's just a no-go, to steal and alter art. Reposting without permission is one thing - hard to contain since the emergence of tumblr - , but taking out the artist's signature AND altering the artwork seems like the height of impudence to me... How can anybody do that and actually think it's ok? It's even worse than plagiarism on my eyes. And then to think it wouldn't come out at some point? That's just stupid.

Definitely not overreacting. However, if she does respond, I wouldn't be surprised if she claims it's a huge misunderstanding and that it's really her work. Or else she'll tell you it's a compliment and you should be gratified she liked your work enough to snag it.

Thanks, my dear *hugs back*. I haven't heard from her yet, and I giver her a few more days, but then my patience comes to an end. She can tell me all she wants that it's her original work, I have the f*** photoshop files with all the bits and pieces from countless pictures that I used to put together the manip, and I know she can't have those, because I MADE THEM! And I posted my manips three years before her, so that's a good indication as well. Wahhh, I'm so mad at her.

And if she comes with the compliment thing, I might just set her straight that stealing isn't a compliment and that I'm not feeling flattered but offended and very very pissed. And I might bite her head off. But I can see how somebody who did something nasty like this in the first place might actually say such things. For her own heath I seriously hope she doesn't.

I'll keep you posted, and if it gets down to it, I will greatly appreciate anybody who helps me spreading the warning about that stealing lying little $%&§

No, you are NOT overreacting and you have every right to be upset and angry. I can't even begin to imagine how hard you work on these manips and how much time you put into it, and it's definitely not okay when someone just steals that without a second thought. I hope she realises immediately that what she's done is wrong and takes down everything, so that you won't have much trouble fixing this. Can't say I would be surprised if she made a fuss, however... Keeping my fingers crossed for you, my dear!

Yeah, you can't believe it, can you? I mean, what the heck was she thinking? If she wants to try out some manipping with other people's artwork, fine, but DON'T POST IT ONLINE! It's so incredibly stupid. She must have known that the original artist would find it in the end, especially in a fandom as small as Stargate Universe. I want to see her burn, I have to admit that. But more than that I want those hideous altered versions of my manips to be taken down. Okay, AND I want to see her burn. *growl and grumbles*

Thanks for your understanding, hon. I really put hours over hours into my manips, and the idea that somebody just alters them (and she did it badly, on top of it) and takes out my signature makes me very very mad. I make them to share the love with other fans, to make others smile and enjoy the visuals we all might have imagined but never got to see - I certainly don't make them for an untalented, lazy and praise-seeking thief who didn't make the effort to create their own fanart.

I'm expecting her to make a fuss as well, or just to not react at all. I will go after her on tumblr and facebook if I have to, I will not let it sit if she doesn't react. And I will make sure to ruin her reputation in all the fandoms, because I don't think it will be hard to find other artists who she robbed just like me. They won't like that any more than I do. I remember that there's an LJ-comm warning about plagiarism. I think that's a good place to start.
